Unemployment compensation benefits extension was incorporated at the state level over 40 years ago. Therefore, it seems to be appropriate to allow the states to address the issue of a 3rd tier of benefits. However, if the Federal government wants to make a difference, how about jobs creation, as promised? That would be much more cost-effective and much easier on our grand-childrens' tax burdens.

well it would just be nice if the senate would UNSTALL the bill to pass the 4th extension. It is amazing to me the Cash for Clunker's could pass within days but this HR is stalled?? Why is that?? Be nice to know where to go to voice opinions that would actually help get us somewhere..........

The Senate is just sitting on it. Look at what I pulled up on Senate.gov
9/22/2009 Passed/agreed to in House: On motion to suspend the rules and pass the bill, as amended Agreed to by the Yeas and Nays: (2/3 required): 331 - 83 (Roll no. 722).
10/8/2009 Read the first time. Placed on Senate Legislative Calendar under Read the First Time.
Currently Active Bills that may receive floor action this week.
Senate chamber Agriculture S.1406 H.R.2997 Commerce, Justice, Science H.R.2847 Defense H.R.3326
They are not even talking about the Unemployment Extension yet! Do they not read their email and the thousands of people who have already lost their benefits this month!!
They don't seem to realize who 'We the People' are! If you look at their Web site the Unemployment bill is not listed in their current agenda, it is listed in their Popular Subjects list.

To the members of the Senate please take action on the unemployment extension this week. People are desperate and need you to respond.
To those that are in the same boat as I, please email and call your Senator, and Senate majority leader Harry Reid 202-224-3542, fax 202-224-7327.
When they hear from enough of us they may respond with a little more urgency.

I've been watching the "Lack" of action and cspan. It seems to me that the Senate of the United States have their own agendas and "We the People" aren't part of that agenda. We will see if they have an agenda of any kind come next election.
This bill will not be voted on before the end of the month, if then. I have been out of benefits for a month now. All of my bills are due and I have $25 in the bank.
I am watching for new bills to send financial support anywhere. I'm ready to march, is anyone else?

To MidwestMaMa, I feel your frustration for sure. I have one check left, this Sunday to call in. I truly thought that they were going to pass a bill with all the states. They spoke about giving the states with 8.5% and over an extra 13 weeks. I also gathered they were thinking of 4 weeks extra for the states that were below the 8.5. Right now, I would be happy with 4 weeks even though CT is 8.1% which doesn't seem so far off. What I think doesn't matter. I hear alot of chatter on c-span. They repeat alot. One Senator gets up to speak and then the next Senator gets up and goes over the same sentences just about. It is frustrating when they discuss the health bill first. Don't get me wrong the Health issue is important also, but holding that bill for a few days will not make a difference, but holding on the extension will hurt many people right now. Some people have been without their benefits for 4 weeks now. I appreciate the extra weeks I received in the past, but it is a h

I am all in favor of equal treatment of all 50 states, however, delaying this extension is hurting hundreds of thousands of people in the 27 states that are losing their homes, cars, and basic needs like utilities, because certain senators want their unemployed covered as well. In the states with more than 8.5% unemployment, there are fewer available jobs and therefore more need for help in the form of an extension. Pass the bill now to prevent the mounting losses by individuals who can not wait because even if they get their payments at a later time, they will not be able to get their home or repossessed car back, which would make it even more difficult for them to find work when it is available. Get something passed to help these hard-working (when work is available) people get through this tough economic time.

It's too bad that Reid is waiting until "later this week" to bring this bill to the Senate floor, but this is the most definite news I've seen about the details and timeline on this legislation. I'm heartened by this news and anxious for Congress to pass this legislation to help the thousands of Americans who so desperately need it.

This stalling is such a slap to the face of those who are unemployed. I've read that it will take 45 days in some states to prepare for this extension. What are we to do until then? I've read at other sites that they plan to add this to the healthcare plan in order to secure enough votes for the healthcare plan to pass. If Obama lets this happen, then his years in office will be four and out!
At least CNN is covering the story now. I think we will be doing the same thing next week that we did this week. I am sickened by the blogs by people who have received notice of utilities being cut and eviction notices arriving at their door. I feel for all those who are homeless around the world, but right now we need to take care of our own.

I also have e-mailed and called the Senate and asked for passage of this bill, don't know how much longer my landlord can wait. But then this would just be another empty house out here. I do not know how much more I can take. The last extention didn't put us this far behind, my last check came in the first week of September. There still are no jobs, at least no one wants to hire someone who is 61 years old. I think that the Senate can take their sweet time because they are employed and busy trying to push things we can't afford down our throats. If you don't have a job you can't buy anything... Man all I want is to work.

As you know homicidal is thoughts about homicide.....my login name is HOMEICIDAL (I invented this for thoughts concerning people rageful about being "about to be" homeless)..HOMEICIDAL........At the end of August I ran out of unemployment. I have applied for a jillion jobs and even jobs that I NORMALLY would NEVER consider and still no work...two plus years ago I would send out resumes and for every 15 resumes I sent out I would receive TWELVE replies.......My issue is now that I have no income and am about to lose EVERYTHING I am angry with the fact that I have been LIED to over and over by the state of California about the 4th extension. I have sent them emails and they are SERIOUSLY ignorant as they have very cleverly given me non-answers. .It is OBVIOUS that the JACK ASSES at the senate could care LESS about passing the 4th extension...why.....of course because they have SIX figure salaries and just enjoy arguing with each other and BSing......on their breaks they are busy discussing there latest purchase of their new BMW and talking about their bored wife getting breast augmentation and a face lift so her senate husband will possibly not cheat on her....What I am really interested in knowing is HOW to go about going public with the fact that the state of California is LYING about unemployment???....I was recently told by a unemployment specialist at a "one-stop career center" that the bill had been completely passed two weeks ago and California was just waiting on the funds???????????....I now find out this is sooooo NOT true...

I really don't understand what the hold up is with this unemployment extension crap! It has been more than a month since I exhausted my benefits. I think they are trying to wait until we get closer to the Holiday Season before they approve the extension with hopes that, that money will boost the economy with Holiday spending, but it will do just the opposite because everyone will be so behind in bills etc.. They ( I ) will not be thinking about shopping. This is rediculous... HealthCare is important for our future but we need unemployment benefits NOW....

Call the senators who are holding this bill up they are: Jon Kyl 1-202-224-4521,Senator McConnell 1-202-224-2541 they are the ones we need to talk to. I know and I call them all the time and tell them what I think all of us need to do this so they can hear it first hand. I'm like you I have no more unemployment and I've been looking for work for a year and half now, and I mean really trying extremely hard. Let your voices be heard it's worth the phone call, won't take that long. Just do it, talking to each other doesn't get it done, talking to them may make a difference. BIG OBTIVE, MAYBE MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Doesn't hurt to try.

Well the Senate met again today and their still blocking it. They think it should come out of the presidents stimulus package that is still sitting there with billions in it. They don't want the money to be taxed back to employers. Well guess what? That's the way it's been done now for 30 years, so what's the problem Senators? They also want to add on other ammendements, not even pertaining to the unemployment extension. How horrible. We suffer from their ignorance. I wish it was happening to all of the republicans that are doing this to the very people who voted them into office. How dare all of you.
