how do you think we get national monuments and buildings named after people who deserve it? Granted, its not the best use of tax payer dollars...but its a necessary function of the government to recognize its outstanding members of the public. REPLY

Those who have earned their place in history do not need the approval of the Congress. Those who have not, do not deserve the approval of the Congress.

I hope you all remember that he was a woman beater and a heavy drug user. I don't want my government commending a person like this. What kind of example are we setting for the younger generation? REPLY

Winston Churchill chain smoked and abused alcohol. The Beatles... Many great men had personal foibles, or abused their familiars, but this does not diminish their accomplishments themselves.

He was a wonderful musician, but let's get serious. There is a lot they can do to impact our daily lives. This is not one of these issues. Shame on Rangel for even introducing this. REPLY

Why is our tax money going to pay for this debate instead of why in the world our budget has risen to over $3.1TRILLION dollars? REPLY

What the hell? I had no idea that they voted on this kind of thing in the House. I mean, if it was to put him on a stamp or put up a statue to him or something concrete, maybe, but just to "recognize" him? (Of course, I haven't read the whole bill.) Get on DOWN sith your funky selves. REPLY

I think the procedure would go something like this. "As recognized in H con res 27 A proposed statue to be erected at xxxxx location" REPLY

We have much more important things to do with our time than to even think about this. Focus on hungry, the poor, those without health care. This is a waste of electrons on my laptop screen. REPLY

I can't believe that this gets anywhere near the pipeline let alone gets 19 cosponsors. James Brown's great enough that we really don't need to waste our representatives' time. REPLY
