Expressing the sense of the Congress that the tax give away since 2001 to the wealthiest 5 percent of Americans should be repealed and those monies instead invested in vital programs to relieve the growing burden on the working poor and to alleviate poverty in America.

Use the repealed tax money to shore up Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. We have been trying to alleviate poverty for over 40 years. Take care of the real problems facing America. REPLY

I agree that some of the money should be used to fund SS. That's also where the economic stimulus money should have gone. But also remember that the wealthiest people in the US has the means to fudge how much money they have if backed into a corner. REPLY

Why is Barbara Lee wasting time with a sense of the congress resolution? If this is genuinely the sense of the congress, then it ought to be passed as a bill and sent off to the president. As it is, this is little more than political posturing.

Also, why the provision as to how the money should be spent. If we need to spend more on poverty, then it should be in an appropriations bill.

While I agree with Senator Lee's sentiments, a symbolic gesture is useless. Surely congress has better things to do with their time.

Where is the proof that the wealthiest Americans got all the tax cuts? If anyone can point out where I can get unbiased facts on this, please share. Don't those wealthy folks provide jobs to a whole lot of us? REPLY

I would vote yes to this if the money was used to pay down the national debt. It wouldn't fully fund S/S or Medicare/Medicaid anyway, so let's use it to pay down the debt and keep that money here instead of sending it to China (our largest creditor) in the form of interest payments on the debt. I do agree that simply 'expressing the sense of Congress' is less valuable than enacting real legislation, the sentiment is still vital to our country. REPLY

Taxes are supposed to be used to supply public goods. Such as healthcare, social security, and education. We don't pay taxes to get tax cuts. REPLY
